MCKENZIE, Tenn. — McKenzie High School made another addition to their athletic staff Tuesday morning. According to the McKenzie athletic department, the Rebels have officially named Justin Lowery as the next head boys basketball coach.

Lowery has spent the last 16 years as the head boys coach at Gibson County, holding the record for most wins in program history. The Bradford native recently led the Pioneers to back-to-back historic seasons in 2022 and 2023, earning one region title and two Class 2A sectional appearances. He was also named the District 12AA Coach of the Year in 2023.

“I think they have a really good tradition within all of their sports programs in McKenzie,” said Lowery. “I think their administration supports all of their sports programs along with the educational side. I think John Wilkins did a really good job with the program, and I look forward to picking up where he left off.”

Lowery will finish out the current school year at Gibson County, serving as the tennis coach this spring. He will then transition over to McKenzie to begin summer workouts as soon as possible.
