Union Baseball Wraps Regular Season With Losses to Alabama Huntsville

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union baseball team was swept this weekend in Huntsville, Ala., ending their regular season with a 17-29 overall record (11-19 GSC).

Union 6, University of Alabama at Huntsville 8
W: Cory Hagood (3-3) L: Jamal Allen (1-3)

Eli Snelson started for Union. He allowed five earned runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out four Charger hitters.

The Bulldogs scored six runs on 12 hits and an error in game one of the three-game set. Mitch Sisk and Alec Hardy both had three-hit games for Union. Sisk, a senior out of Jackson, Tenn., homered and doubled in the loss. Grant Ross also hit two round-trippers, pushing his season total to twelve. Sisk, Hardy, Ross, Colby DavisElijah RamseyBlake Barrett, and Canyon Pace all recorded a hit in game one.

Union 16, UAH 17
W: Aubry Cleghorn (1-0), L: Jamal Allen (1-4)

The second game of the series provided plenty of fireworks as both teams combined for 33 runs on 36 hits and two errors. Union scored 16 runs on 20 hits and an error. Blake Barrett and Alec Hardy both homered for the Bulldogs. Carson Chavies, Ramsey, and Sisk all reached on extra bases in the loss.

Will Allen Smith recorded a three-hit game, driving in three runs and scoring two. Chavies drove in two runs on four hits while scoring two runs. Grant Ross drove in a run and scored a run during his two-hit performance. Sisk drove in three runs on three hits while scoring twice. Hardy drove in two runs on two hits while scoring twice. Ramsey drove in two runs on two hits while scoring a run. Barret drove in two runs on three hits while scoring twice. Davis drove in a run and scored a run as a pinch hitter.

Ethan Orwig shined out of the Bullpen, throwing up 3.2 innings shut out innings in relief while striking out four Chargers.

Union 6, UAH 12
W:Justin Perreault (1-0), L: Noah Toney (1-7)

In the Bulldog’s final game of the season, the offense scored six runs on eight hits. Ryan Aljancic hit a three-run homer in the first inning of the game before the Chargers scored six unanswered. Ben Smith and Aljancic both had a multi-hit game for Union in the finale. Dyllon Barrett, Aljancic, Davis, Smith, Ross, and Snelson all recorded a hit for the Bulldogs.

On the mound, Alex Johnson and Scotty Wyatt threw two innings of clean relief for Union.

Union, who was on the cusp of making the GSC tournament before the weekend started, has been eliminated from post-season contention. Thank you for supporting our Bulldogs over the course of the 2023-24 baseball season.
