Lane Softball Advances To Semifinals Of SIAC Championships

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Lane College softball team opened the 2024 Cricket SIAC Softball Championship on Monday with two wins over Edward Waters and Spring Hill. The victories move the Dragons in to the semifinals of the championship tournament.

Game Notes

  • Lane opened the day against the defending conference champions, Edward Waters; the Dragons scored six runs on 11 hits en route to a 6-1 victory
  • Jersey Cabana (16-6) took a no-hitter into the bottom of the 7th inning before the Tigers recorded their first hit when they were down to their final out; the sophomore picked up the complete game while striking out six batters and surrendering on earned runs
  • Kaylee Stinnett was 2-for-3 with two RBI
  • Jullianna Saint Hilaire picked up three RBI on two hits and one double
  • Penelope Foote was 2-for-4 with two runs scored
  • Game two saw a rematch with Spring Hill after the Badgers earned a sweep over the Dragons last weekend; the Lane pitching staff quieted the bats of the league’s number one team, holding SHC to just two runs
  • Jonni Sanchez (3-1) earned the win in relief while Jersey Cabana (1) picked up the save in 1.0 innings of work
  • With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 6th, Joslyn Soinila singled through the right side to drive in the game winnings runs
  • Shawna McNair was 2-for-2 with a run scored
  • Takya Garrett collected a hit and scored two runs for Lane

The Dragons will play in the semifinals on Tuesday, April 30th, against Tuskegee University. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 PM.
