COLUMBUS, Ga. – For the first time in school and program history, the Lane College softball team will play for a SIAC Championship. The Dragons defeated Tuskegee 2-0 in the final game of the winner’s bracket to advance to the tournament finals.
A diving catch in foul territory by Shanna McNair opened the game as Lane held Tuskegee scoreless in the top of the 1st. Aspyn Beattie then led off the home half of the inning with a single and advanced to second when Kaylee Stinnett earned a walk. Jullianna Saint Hilaire ripped a RBI single tp right field to score Beattie. A sacrifice bunt from Halle Koger then scored Stinnett.
It proved to be all the Dragons needed as the defense and Jersey Cabana handled the rest. Cabana (17-6) pitched a complete game shutout, throwing 7.0 innings and allowing just four hits.
Spring Hill worked their way through the loser’s brack to earn a rematch with Lane in the championship game of the double-elimination tournament on Wednesday. The game will be played at RG Jones Stadium in Columbus, Ga. at 1:00 PM EST.
