UT Martin Women’s Basketball Adds 2 More Signings To 2024 Signing Class

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball program made two more additions to its loaded 2024 recruiting class by receiving commitments from center Tia Hymon (Lane College) and Mauryah Jones (Rossville Christian Academy).

“We are excited about adding both Mauryah and Tia to our program,” McMillan said. “Mauryah is a crafty point guard who was a great floor general for a talented Rossville Christian team. She is a big competitor that brings it every day while providing a presence that her teammates gravitate towards. Meanwhile, Tia comes from a winning high school program at Southside. She is a fierce defensive player who rebounds and blocks shots at an elite level. At her age and maturity, she should be able to help our team grow.”

Jones joins the Skyhawks after previous stops at Jackson State Community College and Lane College. The Jackson, Tenn. native has produced for two of her hometown programs over the past three seasons. Most recently, she spent the 2023-24 campaign at Lane College where she averaged 1.5 points and 1.7 rebounds in 8.1 minutes per game. She rounded out her stat line with seven blocks, seven assists and three steals.

Prior to her stint with the Dragons, she spent two seasons at Jackson State Community College. During the 2022-23 campaign she nearly averaged a double-double with 9.5 points and 10.0 rebounds a game while dominating on defense with 116 blocks (5.0 per game). She snagged double-digit rebounds in 12 contests and recorded seven double-doubles. Her best shooting night came against Chattanooga State with a season-high 18 points while playing all 40 minutes against Dyersburg State and recording 16 points and 14 rebounds and seven blocks. She ranked second in the NJCAA with 116 blocks and had double-digit swats in three contests. Her freshman season saw her add 2.9 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while adding 37 blocks.

She prepped at Jackson Southside where she played for head coach Brent McNeal. The post player tallied 615 points while adding 466 rebounds and 158 blocks throughout her prep career.

Jones joins the Skyhawks from Rossville Christian Academy where she played for head coach Kendrick Watkins. Along with leading her team to back-to-back MidSouth Association Independent School (MAIS) state championships, she also garnered consecutive MAIS Miss Basketball Player of the Year honors as a junior and senior. Prior to completing her career at Rossville Christian Academy, Jones played her freshman and sophomore seasons at Fayette-Ware Comprehensive High School. Her sophomore year she averaged 8.6 points, 3.9 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.1 rebounds per game, helping her team to a state championship appearance.

The tandem brings the team’s 2024 recruiting class to nine players with the additions of Kayana Armbrister (Florida Atlantic), Mikayla Lambert (Paragould HS), Kaitlyn McCarn (Mountain View HS), Daejah Richmond (Southeast Missouri), Taylor Scohy (Bellbrook HS), Abbigail Stephens (Southeast Missouri) and Yar Tong (Edge Prep).
