
BRENTWOOD, Tenn.– University of Tennessee at Martin cross country standouts Maggie Roy and Sam Shuman were tabbed as Ohio Valley Conference Runners to Watch.
A Spokane, Mo. native, Shuman earned All-OVC first team accolades for the first time in his career with a time of 23:54.77 (fifth place, personal record in the 8k) at the conference championship last year. He finished the season with two PRs, including a mark of 31:41.3 in the 10k during the NCAA Division I South Region Cross Country Championship.
A native of Bartlett, Tenn., Roy narrowly missed out on All-OVC honors last season at the conference championship when she ran a 22:25.3 (PR) in the 6k for a 16th place finish. She also tallied a new PR for the 5k (18:55.9) in the John McNichols Invitational. She was a consistent force in the scoring five, making the group in all five meets.
The Skyhawks begin the year at the Memphis Twilight XC Classic on Aug. 31 with the women racing a 5k at 9:20 p.m. and the men competing in the four-mile at 10 p.m.
