
JACKSON, Tenn. – Union men’s soccer moved to 4-1-1 on Monday afternoon with a lopsided 10-0 win over Champion Christian College at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex.
Champion Christian, a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), dropped to 1-3-0.
Kenny Nitzsche, Thad McCanse, Noel Pataki, and Cillian Heaney scored braces for the Bulldogs, who controlled possession for the entire game, only allowing two shots on goal. Both of these were saved by Tommy Scahill en route to his third clean sheet of the season. The junior has not allowed a goal in 258 minutes in 2024.
Union opened scoring with Nitzsche’s second penalty conversion of the year at 9′. Nitzsche would score Union’s fourth goal of the game at 26′ to bring his season total to three.
Union entered the break with a 6-0 lead after other goals by Solomon Pela (16′), Wesley Mhlanga (22′), and Heaney (35′, 45′).
The second half featured Pataki’s (53′, 77′), and Thad McCanse’s (84′, 86′) braces.
Marc Badibanga, Daniel Dixon, Luca Pereira, Nitzsche, Pataki, Mhlanga, Ashanie Kennedy, Sam Newman, Zeph Key, and Jackson Talley notched Union’s 10 assists.
Union led Champion Christian in shots 32-7, shots on goal 15-2, and corners 11-2. The Bulldogs are the first GSC team to four wins and have held opponents to just 0.83 goals per match. Heaney, Nitzsche, Kennedy, and Diego Medina co-lead the team with three goals apiece. Paced by Pataki’s three, 14 Bulldogs have assisted.
Union will be on the road this weekend at Mississippi College (Friday, 3:30 p.m.) and Delta State (Sunday, 3:00 p.m.).
