Union Men’s Golf Finishes Tied For 8th At NCAA National Preview

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Union men’s golf finished in a three-way tie for eighth place after two rounds at the NCAA National Preview tournament in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on Tuesday. The scheduled third round of the par-71 event was rained out soon after play had commenced.

All fourteen teams in the field were either ranked or receiving votes in the most recent GCAA Division II Poll, including No. 1 Colorado Christian, No. 4 Oklahoma Christian, No. 5 Georgia Southwestern, and No. 7 Florida Southern.

Gray Campbell finished in a tie for sixth place to lead Union, posting scores of 71 (E) and 69 (-2). Campbell played consistent golf over 36 holes, posting 26 pars and six birdies.

Three Bulldogs – Timothy PinkstonWill Brown, and Trace Robinson – finished in a tie for 38th place with an event score of 148 (+6).

Pinkston shot 76-72 with nine birdies throughout the tournament, while Brown shot his inverse – 72-76.

Robinson’s even-par first round featured one of the tournament’s seven eagles; he shot 77 on the second 18 holes.

Union’s uncounted score was Kip Patterson’s 21-over 163.

Union bested No. 14 Dallas Baptist, Lynn (RV), Tampa (RV) and Central Missouri (RV) and performed evenly with Central Oklahoma (No. 9) and Nova Southeastern (No. 11).

Sungyeop Cho of Colorado Christian won the event at -9 (133). Cho’s Cougars were the best team in the competition, finishing with an aggregate of 561 (-7).

Union will play next at the Shark Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern on October 7-8.
