UT Martin Soccer Drops Home Match To Tennessee Tech

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team hosted its first Ohio Valley Conference opponent of the 2024 campaign today but the defending regular season champion Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles managed a 2-0 win at Skyhawk Field.
UT Martin (2-6-3, 1-2 OVC) outshot Tennessee Tech by a 13-10 margin in the second half in hopes of securing the game-tying goal before the Golden Eagles added an insurance score with 7:18 to go.
Izzy Patterson led the Skyhawks in shots with six attempts (two on goal). Unni Wolf (four shots) targeted one attempt on net while Maren Cain (two shots, one shot on goal), Peyton Cook (one shot on goal), Nyeemah Prescod-Beckles (one shot on goal), Makayla Robinson (one shot), Shayla Addington (one shot) and Brooke Kala (one shot) composed the offensive attack for UT Martin, who was playing a home contest for the first time in exactly three weeks.
Skyhawk goalkeeper Mac Titus had four saves on the day while logging all 90 minutes between the pipes. Joining Titus on the pitch for full time was Parker Gelinas, Ella Rucka, Addington and Kala.
Less than eight minutes into the match, Tennessee Tech’s Skylar Williams scored on the Golden Eagles’ second shot attempt of the match to give her team a 1-0 early lead. UT Martin responded with shots on goal by Cain and Cook in a 66-second span but Tennessee Tech was there for the save on both tries.
The Skyhawks accounted for the first three shot attempts of the second half, including a low liner from Patterson that was saved just 52 seconds into the period. Prescod-Beckles (73rd minute) and Patterson (80th minute) kept applying pressure before a deflected save from Titus led to the Golden Eagles’ second goal as Tennessee Tech was able to hang on for the win.
UT Martin will get back on the road for a date with conference foe Little Rock on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
