BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin safety Oshae Baker was named Big South-OVC Football Association Defensive Player of the Week after an impressive performance against FBS foe Kennesaw State.
A native of Sanford, Fla., Baker ranked among team leaders with six tackles while his 63-yard interception return for a touchdown gave the Skyhawks a lead they would not relinquish down the stretch on the way to the program’s second win over a FBS program.
One week after setting the school record for most career pass breakups, he added to his passes defended record with his seventh career interception and second returned for a touchdown against Kennesaw State. In total, he helped a defense which limited the Owls to just six offensive points and 215 yards of total offense.
Baker and the Skyhawks return to action this weekend with a Big South-OVC matchup against Gardner-Webb for Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 5. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
