UT Martin Rifle Team Opens Season With Strong Scores At Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle squad accounted for many impressive scores during its first action of the 2024-25 campaign today at Murray State.

The Skyhawks posted 4,639 aggregate points thanks to scores of 2,306 in smallbore and 2,333 in air rifle. The host Racers tallied 4,721 combined points after recording 2,346 points in smallbore and 2,375 points in air rifle.

Senior Alayna Walther came away with the most aggregate points (1,163) with 64 centers while Joey Kovach produced 1,160 points with 62 centers. Sadie Palfrey hit a team-best 65 aggregate centers on the way to 1,159 points while Aubrey Chenoweth followed with 1,157 points and 54 centers. Liam Tegeler (1,150 points, 50 centers), Jeffrey Bourassa (1,126, 47), Jesse Chamberlain (1,112, 40) and Rachel Haines (1,099, 35) wrapped up UT Martin’s first match of the season.

Kovach paced the Skyhawks in smallbore with a score of 580. Walther closely trailed with 579 points while Palfrey managed a team-high 29 centers on the way to a 575. Chenoweth was responsible for UT Martin’s final countable score (572) while Chamberlain (542) was also a member of the Skyhawk lineup.

In air rifle, Chenoweth guided UT Martin with 585 points with Walther (584, team-high 44 centers) and Palfrey (584) coming in just one point shy of the team lead. Kovach’s 580 was the last countable tally while Tegeler (576) additionally represented the Skyhawks in the lineup.

Tegeler (574), Bourassa (556) and Haines (535) also took part in smallbore as individuals while Chamberlain (570), Bourassa (570) and Haines (564) competed as individuals in air rifle.

UT Martin will make the 48-mile trek back to the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range this Friday, Oct. 11 for a neutral-site matchup against Akron.
