LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Union women’s soccer remained unbeaten in conference play on Friday night with two first-half goals and a 3-1 win over West Alabama in Livingston.
After the win, the Lady Bulldogs (4-2-2, 3-0-2 GSC) sit in fourth place in the conference standings with 11 points. Only West Florida (5-0-1) has, like Union, not lost in league competition.
West Alabama drops to 1-5-3 (0-3-3).
Sophie Walsh gave Union a lead in the seventh minute with her second goal of the year. After a corner kick, the UWA keeper struggled to contain the ball, punching it in the air, and the senior forward was there to strike the ball home for Union’s early advantage.
At 43′, Rachel Shane doubled Union’s lead, becoming the squad’s ninth goal-scorer of the season. Madison Woolridge floated a ball to the far post from the left corner of the box, and Shane headed it just inside the post to make the score 2-0.
West Alabama halved the Lady Bulldog advantage at 44:17, and Union took a 2-1 edge into halftime.
This scoreline held for 38 second-half minutes, at which point Union found insurance from Lucia Revuelto. When Josyln Greene sent the ball through the defense, the UWA goalkeeper came to collect it, but Revuelto beat her, chipping it into the bottom-right corner of the net for her second goal of the season.
Revuelto leads the team in points with 11 and has tallied a goal or an assist in seven of Union’s eight contests.
Kirsten LaVallee made four saves in 90 minutes between the posts, keeping her in-conference GAA at 1.00.
Union led the sides in shots 18-11 and shots on goal 11-5. The team is 4-0-0 when putting six or more shots on target.
The Lady Bulldogs will play next at third-place Alabama-Huntsville (5-4-1, 4-1-1) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
