UT Martin Golf Finishes 4th At Pinetree Intercollegiate

KENNESAW, Ga. – Five University of Tennessee at Martin golfers finished inside the top-25 of the standings at the Pinetree Intercollegiate, which wrapped up today at Pinetree Country Club.

The consistent scoring helped the Skyhawks place fourth in the final standings with a total score of 904 (+40), ranking second in the field in both pars (146) and par-4 scoring (4.33). UT Martin shot a 302 (+14) during today’s third and final round, carding its first top-five tournament finish of the 2024-25 campaign.

Garrett Chumley earned the fifth top-20 finish of his collegiate career as the senior from Murfreesboro, Tenn. placed 14th with a final tally of 226 (+10). Finishing right behind him in the final player standings was Jackson Twerdahl (first career top-20 finish) and Luke Caldwell (second career top-20 performance) as that duo each shot a 227 (+11).

Jonathan Xoinis and Grant Phillips both tied for 24th in the standings with a cumulative score of 231 (+15) while Cole Isbell shot a 234 (+18) to complete the Skyhawk participation in the event.

There was a three-way tie in the UT Martin lineup for best score during today’s Round 3 as Caldwell (four birdies), Twerdahl (two birdies) and Xoinis (two birdies) each shot a 75. Isbell’s 77 included three birdies and the Skyhawks’ lone eagle of the day while Chumley posted an 81 with a pair of birdies. Competing as an individual, Phillips carded a 77 with three birdies today.

For the tournament, Twerdahl topped the 60-man field in pars (38) while also ranking seventh in par-3 scoring (3.25, +3) and 10th in par-4 scoring (4.20, +6). Chumley and Caldwell each tied for sixth in the event with 10 birdies while Phillips ranked seventh in the tournament in par-3 scoring (3.25, +3) and 11th in par-5 scoring (4.67, -4).

UT Martin also sent four golfers to play as individuals at The Buddy tournament, hosted by Murray State yesterday and today. Dax Isbell placed sixth in the 76-man field with a 210 (-3), filing rounds of 71-67-72. Jaden Morrell finished seventh with a final score of 212 (-1), accounting for scores of 71-70-71. Ethan Ray (218, 74-69-75) and Drew Williams (220, 76-72-72) additionally represented the Skyhawks. Isbell and Morrell tied for third in the tournament with 13 birdies while Isbell (3.88 par-4 scoring average, fifth) and Morrell (4.22 par-5 scoring average, second) ranked in the top-five of the event in their aforementioned statistical categories. Ray ranked fourth in the field with a 2.92 par-3 scoring average while Williams managed a team-best 32 pars.

Next up for UT Martin is the La Tour Intercollegiate as the Skyhawks will travel to Mathews, La. for a tournament hosted by Nicholls on Oct. 21-22.
