JACKSON, Tenn – Spring Hill College blitzed Union men’s soccer, scoring three goals before 26 minutes had elapsed, and the Badgers beat Union 3-1 on Friday night at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex.

Alessandro Abate of the visitors scored in the sixth minute and assisted the game-winner in the 21st, leading the way for Spring Hill in a game whose stats were more even than the final score.

Both teams put four shots on goal, while Spring Hill took 14 shots to Union’s 13. The Badgers slightly edged Union in corners, 4-3.

Spring Hill grabbed insurance in an Adrian Rodriguez penalty conversion five minutes after the game’s second goal. Union trailed 3-0 at the half, having been outshot 10-3.

Kenny Nitzsche scored in minute 57, but Union (6-5-1, 1-4-1) went without much protest. He now leads the team with two goals in GSC play and five overall.

Union’s offense has sputtered in conference competition so far in 2024. The Bulldogs have scored just four goals in six contests and have been shut out three times. They’ll look to change this on Sunday when they take on #12 West Florida at 3:30. Entry to Smith Memorial Soccer Complex is covered by FirstBank.
