MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Gray Campbell’s top-ten position led the Union men’s golf team to a sixth-place finish in the Milton Makeup at the Miami Shores Country Club on Tuesday.

The nine-team, 54-man event replaced tournaments that were canceled due to Hurricane Milton and featured some of the South Region’s stoutest competition, including Lee (#7 nationally), Valdosta State (#21) and Nova Southeastern (#28).

Campbell finished at -4 (71-71-69–209) after two rounds of even golf and a four-under final session, the third-best of the day. The senior finished the event with the third-best par 3 average (2.83), 10th-best on 4s (4.00) and 14th-best on 5s (4.67). In the three rounds, Campbell manufactured 11 birdies (11th) and 36 pars (eighth).

Behind Campbell finished Timothy Pinkston and Trace Robinson, who tied for 26th at +4. Pinkston’s eagle on the 530-yard first hole in round two was one of just five recorded in the tournament and helped him post the fifth-lowest par 5 score in the field (4.44).

Union played extremely consistent golf between both days, posting scores of 289, 288 and 289 for a team total of 866. Each of the Bulldogs’ scores of +5, +4 and +5 were sixth-best in their respective rounds.

As a team, Union finished fourth in both par 3 and par 5 averages at 3.12 and 4.71. All together, the Bulldogs dropped 30 birdies, the sixth-most in the field.

Rounding out Union’s scorecard were sophomore Jack-Henry Wise (+15) in the T-48th position and freshman Matthew Westmoreland (+17) in 52nd.

Lee University won the event with a team score of 838 (-14), led by Drew Zielinski’s 11-under finish.

The Milton Makeup was the final event of the fall season for the team, which will now take a hiatus from competition before spring play begins.
