MATHEWS, La. – Redshirt senior Jackson Twerdahl turned in the best tournament performance of his collegiate golf career to pace the University of Tennessee at Martin on the final day of the LaTour Intercollegiate hosted by Nicholls.

A Nolensville, Tenn. native, Twerdahl carded a 70 with four birdies and 13 pars during today’s Round 3, finishing the event with a 213 (-3). That score ranked sixth in the field of 72 competitors and was good enough for his first career top-10 collegiate finish. He guided or shared the team lead in par-3 scoring (3.08, +1), par-5 scoring (4.50, -6) while ranking second in the entire tournament in fewest bogeys (five).

“I want to send out a huge congratulations to Jackson,” Skyhawk head coach Austin Swafford said. “He’s had his best fall yet and this was icing on the cake. I’m excited to see what he does this offseason going into the spring.”

Garrett Chumley accounted for a top-15 finish for the second straight tournament, finishing with a total score of 215 (-1). He shot a 73 with a team-best five birdies in Round 3, rounding out the event in a tie for first place in the tournament for fewest doubles-plus (one). The senior out of Murfreesboro, Tenn. additionally ranked seventh in the event in birdies (13) and par-5 scoring (4.50, -6).

Freshman Cole Isbell finished just outside the top-20 with a final tally of 216 (E). He was followed by Dax Isbell (221, +5) and Jonathan Xoinis (226, +10) in the scoring lineup while Jaden Morrell (231, +15) competed as an individual. Cole Isbell ranked in the top-eight in the tournament in pars (38, second) and par-3 scoring (3.08, +1, seventh), tying Twerdahl and Morrell for the team lead in the latter category. Dax Isbell’s 4.03 (+1) ranked as the best par-4 scoring average on the squad.

Joining Twerdahl and Chumley with countable scores in Round 3 was Dax Isbell (four birdies) and Xoinis (two birdies), who each recorded 74’s. Cole Isbell sank a pair of birdies on the way to a 75 today while Morrell’s scorecard of 78 included one birdie.

UT Martin shot a 291 (+3) today to finish fifth in the 12-team standings with a cumulative score of 864 (E). The Skyhawks combined to lead the tournament in fewest double bogeys or worse (six) and pars (168) while ranking second in par-4 scoring (4.09, +13).

“This was a solid week to finish our fall schedule,” Swafford said. “We are making too many little mistakes that turn into bogeys so we have to dive into that this offseason. But overall, the guys responded well and gave great effort this week and I am very proud of them for that.”

UT Martin now faces nearly four months away from official competition before opening the spring campaign on Feb. 16-18 at the Loyola Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz.
