MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Lady Bulldog defense shone in a 1-0 win at Auburn-Montgomery on Sunday afternoon, as the third goal in two games by Irene Arias was enough to clinch a GSC Championship spot with a weekend to spare.

Union (7-4-3, 6-2-2 GSC) breaks a two-game skid with the victory and sits tied for third in the conference table with 20 points.

Arias found her third goal of the year – and the weekend – in minute 27 on an assist by Joslyn Greene, her third. Greene, ten yards outside the box, sent the ball over several Warhawks, where it met Arias, who had broken free. The Spaniard was left with only the keeper to beat and tapped the game-winner into the left corner of the net.

Union took the advantage to the break, having outshot the hosts 6-0. AUM wasn’t credited with a shot in the second half either, and Kirsten LaVallee collected a relatively simple clean sheet, the senior’s fourth of 2024.

The win is the third 1-0 victory of the season for the team, which beat Montevallo and Alabama-Huntsville by the same scoreline on October 5 and 13, respectively.

Union has two more chances to battle for position in the eight-team GSC bracket. The Lady Bulldogs will host Trevecca Nazarene on Friday (5:00 p.m.) and Lee University on Sunday (1:00 p.m.) as they search for a top-four seed and the right to host a first round matchup.

The Lady Bulldogs made the GSC Championship as a 5-seed in 2023.

The GSC Quarterfinals are set for Sunday, November 10.
