Union Women’s Basketball Drops Final Game Of D2CCA Tipoff Classic

BILLINGS, Mont. – Senior Macey Lee scored her 1,000th career point on Sunday morning, but the Lady Bulldogs fell 86-60 to #3 Grand Valley State in their third and final game of the D2CCA Tipoff Classic.

The 26-point scoreline is Union’s widest margin of defeat since an 84-57 loss to Christian Brothers on February 27, 2021.

Union (2-1) was led in scoring by Macey Lee’s 12 points, while Olivia Lee and Kynidi Mason Striverson also finished in double figures with 11 and 10.

Grand Valley State opened the game five-for-five from three and claimed a 13-point lead after quarter one at 31-18, having held Union to just four-of-thirteen from the field in the first ten minutes.

Union used a 10-0 run in the second quarter to decrease the margin to seven (42-35) at the break. The Lakers ended the first half with six consecutive missed three-point attempts.

GVSU outscored Union 44-25 in the second half. Union failed to convert a field goal in the third quarter, scoring just seven points on free throws.

The Lakers outshot Union 45.3% to 28.3% overall and 42.3% to 23.3% from three.

28.3% is Union’s worst overall shooting mark since the Lady Bulldogs hit 17 of 64 shots (26.6%) in a 43-40 win over AUM on January 10, 2019.

Through three games, Macey LeeOlivia Lee and Bethany Dillard co-lead the team with 35 points – 11.7 per game apiece. The Lee sisters were named to the event’s All-Tournament team.

Next, the Lady Bulldogs will host Williams Baptist on Friday, November 15, at 1:00 p.m.
