
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Union University men’s basketball fell to Division I Austin Peay 95-75 Monday evening in its final tune-up before regular-season play.
Union trailed by just seven points with under 16 minutes remaining, but the Governors used a 21-8 run to stretch the lead to 20, where it finished after both teams scored 18 points in the final 11 minutes.
Cousins Judson Bjornstad and Parker Applegate led Union with 13 and 12 points, respectively, while each grabbed five rebounds.
Austin Peay (1-0), which had five players in double-figures, was led in scoring by Isaac Haney’s 19 and 15 from Tekao Carpenter.
Union shot 50% (8-16) from three in the second half. Bjornstad finished 3-5 from distance, while Devaki Garr shot 3-7 and Isaiah Victor connected on two of four. Both teams finished with 11 made three-pointers—Union on 27 attempts (40.7%) and Austin Peay on 23 (47.8%).
The home squad dazzled at the free throw line, converting 24 of 26 tries (92.3%). Union was awarded 25 attempts but missed 11.
Next on Union’s schedule is the South Region Crossover Classic, hosted by Lane College. The Bulldogs will play Lane on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Tuskegee at noon Saturday.
