On Thursday morning, the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) unveiled the five semifinalists for the prestigious Tennessee Titans Mr. Football awards, and Westview freshman Graham Simpson earned a spot among the finalists for the Class 3A honor.
Simpson is joined by fellow standout players Eli Graf of Alcoa, Radarious Jackson of Sheffield, Eli Owens of Alcoa, and Skylan Smith of Covington in the Class 3A semifinalist group.
Simpson has been a key factor in Westview’s historic season, helping the team to its first 10-0 regular season finish since 1970 and securing the Region 7-3A title. The team also earned the No. 2 ranking in the TSWA Class 3A poll, trailing only Alcoa.
Throughout the regular season, Simpson has been exceptional, completing 145 of 188 passes for 2,763 yards, 43 touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He has also rushed for 53 yards and one touchdown. Notably, Simpson has only played in the second half during three of Westview’s games.
In last Friday’s Region 7-3A championship game against undefeated Covington, Simpson made history, setting the state record for passing yards in a single game with 624. He also set a new school record with eight passing touchdowns while completing 32 of 46 passes.
The Tennessee Titans Mr. Football award recognizes outstanding individual performance during the regular season, with winners selected by a committee of sportswriters from across Tennessee. The list of semifinalists will be narrowed to three finalists on November 26, announced during the Tennessee Titans radio show. The three finalists will then be honored at a luncheon at Nissan Stadium on December 10, where the winner of the award will be revealed.
