Union Men’s Cross Country Finishes 10th At NCAA D2 South Region Championships

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – On Nov. 9, the Union University men’s cross-country team posted a 10th place finish at the NCAA D2 South Region Championships with a time of 2:50:17. This was the highest region finish for the team since 2019 when they took 9th place. The 10k event was held at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Ala., and featured 20 teams.

Union was led by Aaron Fynaardt, who made the top 25, finishing 22nd with a time of 32:01.88. Tristan Kelly finished 51st (33:27.33), Ryan Keeton 60th (33:56.00), Noah Jinks 89th (35:05.28), Caleb Cook 100th (35:46.90), and Riley Garrison 108th (36:16.37).

Alabama-Huntsville’s Sam Wilhelm won the meet with a time of 30:15.99. Lee University finished first in the race, followed by Alabama-Huntsville in second, Mississippi College in third, Florida Southern in fourth, and Embry-Riddle in fifth to round out the top five.

This was the final race of the fall season for the Bulldogs. Their best finishes were in the University of North Alabama Invitational and the Watson Collegiate Classic where they placed third and fourth, respectively. The team finished seventh in the Gulf South Conference Championships with Fynaardt being named Second Team All-Conference after his 20th place finish.
