
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The University of Martin rifle team shot a 4660 aggregate on day one of the 2024 Gamecock Invitational at the Gamecock Rifle Range in Jacksonville. UT Martin must now wait until the end of tomorrow’s relays to see where it finishes in the five-team field that also includes Murray State, North Georgia, UAB and hosts Jacksonville State.
The Skyhawks shot a 2318 smallbore and a 2342 air rifle for a team aggregate of 4660. Individually, Alayna Walther led UT Martin in the match in both smallbore at 585 and aggregate at 1171, while also firing a season-high 595 in air rifle.
Sadie Palfrey was the top air rifle marksman for UT Martin on the day, shooting a 595, one off her personal best. Aubrey Chenoweth also set a new career-high Saturday by shooting a 578 in smallbore.
The Skyhawks will now take an extended break for the holidays before returning to action Jan. 18 at the Skyhawk Rifle Range against UAB for their final home match of the 2024-25 season.
