During the Tennessee Titans’ weekly coach Brian Callahan show on Tuesday, the finalists for the prestigious Tennessee Titans Mr. Football award were announced, with Westview freshman Graham Simpson earning a spot as one of three finalists for the Class 3A honor. He joins Eli Graf of Alcoa and Skylan Smith of Covington as the top contenders for the award.
Simpson has played a key role in Westview’s impressive season, leading the team to its first 10-0 regular season finish since 1970, along with the Region 7-3A title and a No. 2 ranking in the TSWA Class 3A poll, trailing only Alcoa. Westview will face East Nashville in the Class 3A semifinals this Friday, with a chance to advance to the state championship game.
During the regular season, Simpson has been a standout, completing 145 of 188 passes for 2,763 yards, 43 touchdowns, and no interceptions. Additionally, he rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown. Notably, Simpson has played only in the second half of three games this season.
Simpson’s performance in the Region 7-3A championship game against undefeated Covington was historic. He set a new state record with 624 passing yards in a single game and set a school record with 8 passing touchdowns, completing 32 of 46 passes.
In the playoffs, Simpson has continued to impress, going 48-of-65 for 732 yards and 8 touchdowns, with no interceptions over three games.
Graham Simpson is now aiming to become the first Mr. Football winner from Westview since his brother, Ty Simpson, claimed the Class 2A award in 2021. Westview has had four Mr. Football winners in the past, including Chad Clifton (Class 2A Lineman of the Year, 1994), Justin Harrell (Class 2A Lineman of the Year, 2001), and Rafael Hill (Class 2A Back of the Year, 2002).
The Tennessee Titans Mr. Football award is based on regular season performance and is voted on by sportswriters from across the state. The three finalists will be honored at a luncheon on December 10 at Nissan Stadium, where the winner will be announced by Mike Keith, the voice of the Tennessee Titans.
