
JACKSON, Tenn. – On Saturday afternoon, the No. 20/RV Union University women’s basketball team won 77-66 against GSC opponent Mississippi College. Twelve Lady Bulldogs saw action in the game with eleven scoring two points or more. As a result of the victory, Union improves to 6-2 overall (2-0 GSC), while Mississippi College falls to 5-3 overall (1-1 GSC).
Union’s Alexis Callins got the scoring started with a layup in the paint 1:41 seconds into the game, and the Lady Bulldogs maintained their lead for the rest of the game. However, the Choctaws never let Union go ahead by more than 16 points as they won the second and third quarters 21-18 and 17-15, respectively, and pulled to within five points twice in the second half. Union went on a 14-8 run in the final 6:39 seconds of the game to win by 11 points.
Two Union players put up double digits, including Emily Jones with 13 and Jazalyn Anousinh with 11. Macey Lee followed closely with nine points, and Courtney Zensen, Olivia Lee, and Callins scored eight apiece. Zensen shot a perfect 3-3 in the game with two of her makes being from beyond the arc. Macey Lee and Keisharna Lucas each grabbed four rebounds to lead the team, and Anousinh dished out four assists to top that category.
As a team, Union shot 52 percent (26-50) from the field, 35.3 percent (6-17) from three-point range, and 73.1 percent (19-26) from the free throw line. Olivia Lee, Bethany Dillard, Anousinh, and Jones were all perfect from the foul line, accounting for 14 of the team’s free throws.
Tiara Abron led the Choctaws with 21 points, shooting 8-15 overall and 4-7 from behind the arc. Mississippi College shot 44.2 percent (23-52) from the field, 42.1 percent (8-19) from three-point range, and 75 percent (12-16) from the free throw line.
Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will face Kentucky State University on Dec. 11 at 5:30 p.m. in their last home game until 2025.
