
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – On Thursday night, the No. 17/RV Union University women’s basketball team moved to 4-0 in GSC play after a 70-56 win over Auburn University Montgomery. The Lady Bulldogs are first in the GSC standings and remain the only unbeaten team in conference play. Union’s overall record now stands at 9-2, while the Warhawks drop to 3-7 overall (1-4 GSC).
The game got off to a slow start as each team scored only 10 points in the first quarter. Union added 15 in the second to take a 25-22 lead into halftime. After shooting just 27.39 percent in the first half, the Lady Bulldogs went 9-18 from the field in the third quarter with seven points coming from Olivia Lee, who scored a season high 17 in the game. Union’s 45 points in the second half propelled them to a 26-point victory over the Warhawks.
The Lady Bulldogs had 24 steals in the contest, tying their season high total that came on Dec. 13 against Christian Brothers University. Macey Lee grabbed a career high six steals, while Jazalyn Anousinh tied a career high with five.
Macey Lee and Emily Jones scored 10 points apiece to join Olivia Lee in double digits. Courtney Zensen collected a career high five rebounds to lead the team in the game, and Alexis Callins had a season high in assists with four to top that category for Union. As a team, the Lady Bulldogs shot 37.7 percent (26-69) from the field, 22.2 percent (6-27) from beyond the arc, and 57.1 percent (12-21) from the free throw line.
Danielle Luckey led AUM with 12 points and 11 rebounds and was followed closely by Trinity Hambright who added 11 points of her own and grabbed 9 rebounds. The Warhawks shot 45.1 percent (23-51) from the field, 18.2 percent (2-11) from three-point range, and 80 percent (8-10) from the free throw line.
