BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference named University of Tennessee at Martin senior Garrett Chumley as its Golfer of the Week today, two days after capping off an impressive showing at the Gulf Coast Collegiate in New Orleans, La.
Today’s recognition marks the third career OVC Golfer of the Week award for Chumley, who also won on Sept. 29, 2021 and April 6, 2022. The three career OVC weekly awards are tied with three others for the third-most in Skyhawk history, trailing only UT Martin Athletics Hall of Famers Hunter Richardson (15 from 2014-18) and Brendon Caballero (five from 2011-15).
Chumley shot a 215 (-1) with rounds of 72-71-72 at the English Turn Golf & Country Club, placing sixth in the field of 96 competitors. That marked his second career top-10 finish while the Skyhawks earned their fourth top-five team finish in a row in a very competitive 18-team field.
Making his fourth tournament appearance of the season, the Murfreesboro, Tenn. native ranked fourth in the field in par-3 scoring (2.92, -1), sixth in birdies (12) and ninth in par-5 scoring (4.67, -4). He also tacked on his first eagle of the 2024-25 campaign on Tuesday, which was one of just seven eagles in the third and final round.
Chumley currently ranks 10th amongst active OVC golfers in scoring average (72.6) this season. He has played eight of his 11 rounds at par or better, tapping in 44 birdies on the season.
UT Martin steps away from competitive action until March 13-15 when it travels to St. Simons Island, Ga. for the People’s Golf Championship, hosted by Western Carolina at the Sea Palms Golf Club.
