GAFFNEY, S.C. – After taking game one 6-4 on Friday, the Union University baseball team split Saturday’s doubleheader with Limestone and won a season-opening series for the first time since the 2020 season.

Forty-seven runs were scored between the Saturday twin bill, as each team enjoyed a one-sided slugfest to conclude a series that Limestone edged in total runs (29-28) but fell Union’s way by a game.

Next, Union will play a four-game series in the form of two doubleheaders at UVA-Wise on February 8 and 9.

Game 1: Limestone 18, Union 2

Limestone scored 14 runs in the middle three innings–three in the fourth, five in the fifth, and six in the sixth, had 11 hits and 11 walks, and benefited from five Union errors. Only six of the Saints’ 18 runs were earned.

An Elijah Ramsey double was Union’s lone extra-base hit among its seven knocks, and no Bulldog reached base twice.
