
GULF SHORES, Ala. – After dropping their first game of the Gulf Shores Invitational 8-4 to No. 24 Oklahoma Christian University on Jan. 31, the Union University softball team lost 7-1 to Lubbock Christian University and 10-0 in five innings to Saint Leo University on Feb. 1 and 11-3 in six innings to No. 8 University of North Georgia on Feb. 2. The Lady Bulldogs are now 0-4 overall.
Seniors Brooke Puckett and Sarah Kate Thompson led the Union offense in the tournament. Puckett went 4-10 with two doubles, one home run, and three RBIs, while Thompson was 4-13 with a triple, one RBI, and one stolen base.
All four Union pitchers saw time in the circle. Riley Vaughn and Kira Finkley each had one start and one relief appearance. Vaughn struck out seven batters and walked 10 in 7.1 innings of work, and Finkley struck out four of her own with only seven walks in 8.2 innings pitched.
Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Columbus, Ga., for a three-game series with Columbus State University. First pitch of game one is scheduled for Feb. 7 at 12:00 p.m. with game two to follow.
