LEXINGTON, Ky. – The season-opening University of Tennessee at Martin STUNT season concluded with a victory as the Skyhawks upended Mercyhurst by a 13-10 margin this afternoon. Earlier in the day, UT Martin competed throughout but fell 18-7 to Ashland.
The Skyhawks and Lakers were even at 2-all through the first quarter (partner stunts) before UT Martin outscored Mercyhurst by a 3-0 margin in the second quarter (pyramids and tosses). The two sides split the four points in the third quarter (jumps and tumbling) before the Skyhawks showed out at the end, tallying six points during the fourth quarter team routine for the victory.
UT Martin’s first outing of the day was tight during the first half before the Eagles pulled away late. The Skyhawks trailed 2-1 at the end of the partner stunts first quarter before both teams collected two points apiece in the pyramids and tosses second quarter. However, Ashland claimed all four points in the jumps and tumbling third quarter. UT Martin did manage four points in the team routine fourth quarter but the Eagles pieced together nine points to provide the final scoring margin.
The Skyhawks will now have six weeks away from official competition before resuming their 2025 schedule. UT Martin will return to action on March 15-16 at home, hosting Central Arkansas, Centenary, Missouri State and Northern Kentucky in a tournament held at Skyhawk Fieldhouse.
